MEEZ

JEDDAH, KSA

Being the first street style restaurant in Jeddah, the design of MEEZ aims to explore the journey of the Arabic street markets, passing heritage into the modern dining. To create the ideal atmosphere, the design draws on nostalgia through extreme diligence and scrupulous details of the local Middle Eastern markets. MEEZ emphasizes the merchandising trade as unique local products from Arabian Cities are showcased and sold with MEEZ tokens.

Axis Interior worked closely with the client to ensure the vision and goals are met accordingly. After full analysis for the identify , logo and menu, Axis Interior created a design that mimics the old markets featured in Jeddah, Cairo, Morocco and Izmir with a modern twist. Bringing a little heritage into the design to match the Meez’s menu. The design features certain elements for the old markets of the middle east.

One of the challenges was to combine and unify various Arabic street market styles in one space. Axis Interior wove diverse aspects reflecting the Middle Eastern markets in general. In order to create a street food experience, the design incorporated many interesting decorative elements such as street lamps, doors, signage, and windows which are inspired from the Arabic street market, with a mixture of harmonized textures and color palette.

MEEZ is designed to be open and alluring where customers can visually explore everything including the bar, bakery, and merchandize walls. Hanging carpets are used for noise reduction and as an attractive feature. The lighting fixtures were minimal and raw to indicate the market spirit. At night, the lighting was designed to symbolize intimacy and warmness. While at daytime, the sunlight travels through the space creating an outdoor ambiance.
